A timeless return with the JBL Classic Electronics Series
When JBL approaches you to create a product video for the completely redesigned JBL Classic Series, there's only one way to do it: to bring past and future together in a story that speaks not only to audio enthusiasts, but also to design buffs.
The Classic Series is an ode to the legendary JBL L100 Century speakers of the 1970s, the best speakers in JBL history. This product video shows more than just audio technology; it is a nostalgic journey to an era when design and sound formed an iconic symbiosis.
The video highlights the concept of "Newstalgia" - the feeling of familiar nostalgia with a modern twist. By interweaving images and stories from the zeitgeist of the 1970s and 1980s with the updated JBL Classic Series, we have bridged generations. The vintage look of the Classic L100 speakers and SA550 amplifier with their teak veneers and retro details appeal to a wide audience, from seasoned audio enthusiasts to design-conscious consumers.

For the video, we used an iconic moment from JBL's rich history: 1983 Maxell Hi-Fi "Blown Away Guy" ad: The image of the "Blown Away Guy" with a JBL L100 speaker became a pop culture icon and underscores the lasting influence of this speaker.
These historic moments are at the heart of the storytelling in the video. By combining them with the modern version of the JBL Classic Series, the video strikes a nerve with a nostalgic audience.

Video is emotion
By using realistic 3D animation and old video footage, a universal feeling of nostalgia can be conveyed with such depth. The video exudes a warm, analog atmosphere and authentic sound design takes the viewer into more than 75 years of JBL history. Retro design comes to life by seamlessly combining turntables, vinyl records and interior settings from the era with designer furniture. These elements tell a visual story that transcends generations, with the core message being, "Newstalgia for a little patina in your home."
