How we brought visual order to DaVinci's digital learning environment

DaVinci Academie Academy is all about wonder, ownership and cohesive education. This vision should also be palpable in their electronic learning environment (ELE), where learning materials, assignments and communication come together.

Although the content stood, the design left much to be desired. The ELE, built in Moodle, offered functionality, but lacked structure, overview and visual tranquility. Everything worked, but it didn't feel logical. Time to rectify that.

The challenge

Improve without remodeling

Our assignment was clear: improve the experience, without touching the technology. No custom back-end, no new features. Just a visual redesign within the existing Moodle structure.

So the challenge was not in building something new, but in redesigning what was already there so that it does feel logical, brings peace of mind and intuitively guides the user.

The approach

First listen, then design

We started with the people who work with it every day. Discussions with teachers and students quickly revealed why the current structure was not working: too many clicks, little overview and no clear line in structure. Those sounds from practice were crystal clear: the learning environment worked on paper, but not in practice. 

Based on these insights, we designed an interface that brings calm: clear, logical and recognizable. We tightened the visual hierarchy, brought consistency to patterns and removed unnecessary elements. Everything to make navigation more user-friendly and avoid noise.

From structure to experience

Before we shifted even one pixel, we completely mapped the old ELE. What was already working well? Where did users lose track? Which elements kept recurring, and which ones actually caused confusion?

From dashboard to learning module, each component was analyzed and given a visual refresh. We structured the content, designed fixed components and gave the whole a clear, contemporary look. Not too slick, but just right. The result? An interface that works within the boundaries of Moodle, but feels like customization and in which the user clearly knows what the next step is.

Education in a form that fits

In education, every click counts. Time and attention are scarce, so the digital environment must cooperate effortlessly. By cleverly designing within existing frameworks, we helped DaVinci align their ELE with their vision: education that invites discovery.

The updated interface shows what is possible with the right design, even within a platform like Moodle. Not a new tool, but a new experience.
